California has proven itself as a leader in resisting the abhorrent policies coming out of Congress and the Trump Administration. On Wednesday March 15th, we have the chance to show up in Sacramento to support some of our most vulnerable neighbors as part of a large interfaith coalition led by PICO and Reform California. The California Legislature will be hearing testimony about a number of bills that would help protect undocumented and Muslim individuals.

Transportation information: If you would like to join buses from San Francisco or Oakland being organized by our partners at PICO, sign up here.

Join us in Sacramento for a rally and lobby visits to support these bills:

SB 31: California Religious Freedom Act would prohibit state or local agencies from providing personally identifiable information regarding a person’s religious beliefs, practices, or affiliation when the information is sought for compiling a database of individuals based on religious belief, practice or affiliation, national origin, or ethnicity for law enforcement or immigration purposes.

SB 54: California State Sanctuary would prohibit state and local law enforcement agencies from using resources to investigate, interrogate, detain, detect, or arrest persons for immigration enforcement purposes.

AB 3: Public Defenders would provide grants to qualified legal services projects, qualified support centers, or county offices of the public defender to expand their programs in order to serve as regional legal services agencies capable of providing legal assistance to county offices on issues relating to the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.

SB 6: Immigrants and Legal Proceedings would require the State to administer funding to nonprofit legal services organization subcontractors, to provide legal services to individuals in removal proceedings who are not otherwise entitled to legal representation under an existing local, state, or federal program.

Feel free to reach out to organizer Leili Davari-Bitton with any questions!
